WHERE THE STARS SING OUR NAME
WHERE THE STARS SING OUR NAME
(September2024) Shawnee State Park, OH
Description:
I dreamed of a woman holding a lantern near a foggy lake under the stars, so I got up very early one morning to create it. We got up at 3:30AM to drive 1 1/2 hours to this new location hoping there would be fog on the lake and that we would reach the location in time to capture the last stars before sunrise. The lake was more peaceful and beautiful than I had imagined, with a heavy low fog across the lake. It was very cold, which caused my hands and feet to cramp, but I really wanted to have bare feet for the image (and I was glad for the dock to walk on instead of rocks!) It was just before dawn and I needed to have some light to separate myself from the background trees and to help the camera focus. I used a thin LED light in from of me on a stand to create the halo glow, and a tiny strand of LED lights in the lantern. We stayed to watch the sunrise and it was magical! The fog lingered as the sun rose, the birds began to sing and geese swam on the lake. One other couple was enjoying the sunrise on the other side of the lake, but we were the only four people witnessing nature's beauty. I highly recommend visiting this park if you are in the area!
Shawnee State Park is located in 63,000 acre Shawnee State Forest and was once the hunting grounds of the Shawnee Indians. Nestled in the Appalachian foothills near the Ohio River, it is considered one of the most picturesque areas in the state. The park has two lakes, hiking trails, campgrounds and more.
