AUTUMN'S GIFT

(October 2023) Babcock State Park, WV

Description: I created this image during my first visit to Babcock State Park. I had been working with a couple of friends and their girls on multiple photoshoots and they agreed to take a day trip with me to create images like this one.

I wanted to capture an image that showed the innocence of a young girl experiencing the wonder and awe of the glorious fall colors.

I created this at the height of tourist season, so there were a lot of people about. Luckily, we were able to find a quiet place to capture this image. When I saw the way the sun lit up this area but left some shadows on the other side of the stream, I knew this red dress would glow among the autumn colors, so we acted quickly to capture this before the light could change or people could enter the scene.

Babcock State Park is one of West Virginia's most beloved state parks and is part of the New River Gorge. The Glade Creek Grist Mill is a popular tourist attraction and this image was captured near the mill. The park offers cabins and campsites, fishing, hiking and more.
